Electric Daisy Carnival
by Amber Lynn
EDC Mexico, the country’s largest music festival returns to Mexico City for the 5th annual adventure Under the Electric Sky. Taking place on February 24th through the 25th, two amazing nights the headliners will experience brand new stage designs, internationally acclaimed artists, and even more surprises for the most exciting EDC Mexico by far! The website has put up a guide for the tickets that are on sale now, with links to hotels priced exclusive for festival goers. EDC Mexico is even premiering an all new circuitGROUNDS design as the second largest stage, spanning more than 200 feet wide, and of course we can’t forget the art installations and carnival rides! This year a whopping 200,000 fans from all around the world are expected to reunite, featuring costumed performers, and an exclusive roster of artists. Grab your passport and get ready for this…it isn’t something you’re gonna wanna miss!
It’s the years 5th annual event to date and you do need to do some planning before you head out! First of all-BOOK YOUR HOTEL! You can do this through the EDC website, it isn’t cheap but in comparison Insomniac has hooked up some pretty sweet deals! The easiest (and safest) way to purchase your guaranteed ticket is through Ticketmaster. All international orders will be held at the festival’s box office. To purchase tickets over the phone, please call Ticketmaster’s call center at +52(55)5325900, but the only place to buy tickets with no extra fees is at the box office at Palacio de los Deportes in Mexico City. The box office is located near door 7 and is open from 10am-6pm CT Monday through Sunday. Even if the Ticketmaster system says all accounts are canceled 48 hours before the festival, rest assured that all accounts purchased with a non-Mexican credit card will not be canceled and will be available at Will Call on the day of the show. If you have any doubts regarding this, please feel free to email EDC at email@example.com with your confirmation number to double check.
Now that you’re all set…let’s talk about that lineup though! If you scroll through their website you may come across an article that reads “5 Must See Acts At EDC” I took the liberty to listen to some new music and see what exactly EDC had to offer this year. First on that list was Alok-a little bit Martin Garrix, mixed with Don Diablo. Alok had his breakthrough in 2016 when he clocked in at #25 on DJ Mag’s annual Top 100 DJs poll. He’s also known to bring all kinds of surprises and special guests when he performs. Next on that list is Kydus from Liverpool, for you techno fans out there you’re in luck because this guy’s getting global recognition from Pete Tong himself! I don’t personally love techno but I am extremely interested in seeing his set. Coming in third is an artist from Monterrey, Mexico, Booms Y Claps. For Major Lazer fans he doesn’t fall short from the apple tree. He started out as the DJ for Mexican hip-hop pioneers Control Machete, where he helped define the group’s sound by mixing Mexican soundscapes with contemporary urban styles. Since then he’s just about taken on the world with his sound, working with artist such as Eminem, Diplo, M.I.A. and many more! Up next we have a very happening artist named Anoraak, who is currently working on his new EP set for release later this year…if you’re a fan of Porter Robinson or Holy Ghost, give this guy a listen! And last but certainly not least, a Mexican duo from Monterrey, Los Dutis! They are up and coming DJs who have been making global rounds with their new hybrid genre they named “Harduti,” which has elements of hard dance, trap, moombahton and cumbia. I don’t know about you, but that sounds beyond intense!
So grab a ticket, your passport, a hotel accommodation, and before you enter any new city be sure to always check out the travel warnings and use a buddy system! This year is definitely going to be one for the books guys! Can’t wait to see all of you Under the Electric Sky in Mexico!
