Raver Magazine returned to Arizona this year to ring in the New Year at Decadence. Once again, Relentless Beats and Caren West PR put together and amazing spectacle of an event. The organization, the efficiency, and the overall production are top notch. Shout out to the staff for being wonderful, professional, and courteous to us again on our return.

So, let’s get into the heart of the event. This year drew an even bigger crowd and it was a beautiful sight. The weather last year played a factor but this year it was a pleasant December with no precipitation. 3 stages, 49 performers, 2 epic nights, 1 new year, need we say more?

Saturday Highlights:

On the main stage, Bijou brought the energy with his bass house and tech house sounds he is known for and got our blood flowing. What So Not’s down tempos were a nice change up to bring it back down but only to get erupted with BTSM with an in your face raging performance. Party Favor played a nice compliment leading into Zeds Dead and Jauz’s back to back sets which at this point if you didn’t stretch your neck muscles, you will have a sore one by the end of the night with their hard-hitting sets. Oliver Heldens came in true fashion and just danced with us like he always does, teasing some new tracks along with our currents favorites from him. Borgore kept your head buzzing and when you thought you couldn’t take anymore, Steve Aoki hits you and reminds you why he is the legend that he is. The former white raver rafter/trampoline/birthday cake launcher went hard with a mixture of his classics and currents. Eventually, someone did get caked that night! Other notables were the entire card for the Sapphire Ballroom. Chet Porter, Petit Biscuit, Duke Dumont, and Rüfüs Du Sol made it hard for you to make your way to the main stage. ZHU was the wildcard for the night and he showed you why he is on the fast rise with some of his ridiculous remixes. Tchami closed out the Sapphire in true fashion leaving you with good chill vibes for the night.

Sunday Highlights:

The much anticipated New Year’s eve night came and it made us all excited to ring in 2018. Hard hitters with Sluggo and Crywolf to lead off the main stage but the highlight of the evening goes to the timeless trance legend himself, Armin Van Buuren! We all wished he could play forever because he mesmerized us and took us through a journey with his classics, remixes, currents. Even his remix version of Sunny Days brought new light us.

Whether it was his 140 BPM trance tracks or his progressive at 128 BPM, Armin connected generations of young and old to remind us what dance music really means to us. Zedd was the follow up to Armin and although it had remanence of his Ultra set, it didn’t matter because we all sang along to them. Deorro kept the energy going and counted us down into 2018. What a beautiful site to see all the people of all walks of life being in the moment and sharing all the love and good vibes. Even the security in the VIP area joined in with their “WOOOOO’s” and “Happy New Year”!! Galantis closed out and made us “Run Away” into the night with a New Year and new beginning.

Overall Decadence 2017 was one for the books. The balance of the set scheduling, the production, more vendors, the organization from Relentless Beats and Caren West PR makes us keep wanting to come back not just for NYE but any event that they put on in Phoenix. See you next year Decadence 2018!!
