Joshua Raphaël Dominique van der Burgh (born May 19th, 1996) better known by his stage name Josh Charm, is a Dutch DJ/producer and songwriter delivering a fresh perspective in the electronic music scene heavily inspired by melodic house music.

In 2019 Spinnin’ Records showed interest in his music and together they released his debut single “Praying” followed by “Feel So Good”. Oliver Heldens, Fedde Le Grand and Martin Garrix quickly picked it up, showing their support by playing the singles globally, in their radio shows.

Tiesto also took the youngster under his wing allowing him to release his first debut EP “Desolate” on Tiesto’s imprint AFTR:HRS, receiving massive support from artists such as Nicky Romero & Hardwell.

In 2020 Josh released a number of tracks under Martin Garrix’s label STMPD e.g Too Close for Comfort”, “Trust” and “Cray”. “Too close for Comfort” was massively supported by Martin Garrix’s Dutch Waters Live Set.

On August 31s t, 2020 Josh graduated from the Conservatory of Amsterdam. At the same day he exclusively signed to Martin Garrix’s label STMPD RCRDS. The Dutch sensation is one of the newly upcoming electronic talents for the next generation. With more releases on the way and international demand for his DJ sets, he is definitely one to watch.

Needless to say Josh Charm is ready to hit the main stage all over the world with his ground breaking tracts that hit home too many of us. Raver Magazine CEO and Founder Michael Beas had a chance to catch up with Josh before the 4th of July holiday, this is what he shared up with us.

– Producers such as Nicky Romero, Tiesto, Oliver Heldens, Martin Garrix and so many more have supported your music globally, what is that feeling like?

To be honest it’s an incredible feeling and a reflection of hard work, I’ve been making music and DJing for over 9years now and to see DJ’s I’ve looked up to play my music is a true blessing. Even the fact that some of those producers I can now call friends is surreal.

– Why does Melodic House Music inspire you?

From a young age I was always hooked on House music. However, melodic House really stole my heart and really inspired me ever since I heard Paul Kalkbrenner’s – Sky and Sand for the first time. For me it inspired me after I started going to clubs and seeing people go out to escape their 9 to 5’s, their reality. There is just something special in the feeling of the 808 / 909 Drum machine that resonated with me and club culture. When you combine that with lush chords and a beautiful meaningful vocal you can really convey a message to the audience.

– What is like to be working the STMPD RCRDS family?

For a record label that only exists for 5 years I find that they are fantastic. Unfortunately, I signed and joined right in the pandemic so a lot of working together was done over the phone or online instead of face to face. However, I find the STMPD RCRDS family very warm and friendly and how they received me was extremely welcoming. Working with the team is incredibly special to me as they stand behind my vision and strive to help me improve in this journey and to be able to spar with guys who are longer in the field and you are, with a great set of skills is valuable for me.

– One of the greatest sets during the pandemic was Martin Garrix’s Dutch Waters Live Set. I personally must have seen that set at least 100 times, part of the magic was some of the music that came from him and others that are part of the STMPD RCRDS family. Your track ‘Too Close for Comfort’ was moving and inspirational, what was it like for you to hear your track being played by Martin?

I’m so happy you did! You know, funny enough he messaged me right after telling me he played it, whilst I was working on another song. I went to the STMPD RCRDS Studios the next day in which we met and talked properly exchanging ideas and vibed out. Ever since then we stayed in contact. To me it felt incredibly special as I worked my hardest to get where I am and want to be so for him to play it in the pandemic was a real boost for me personally as well as my career. It motivates me to work even harder and push myself to keep trying to make music that make others feel euphoric.

Bonus Question.

If you could do a B2B set with anyone in the world, who would it be and why?

That’s a hard one but either Dennis Ferrer, Kevin Saunderson or YTRAM. Dennis & Kevin as they are such iconic House legends. YTRAM as I love what he’s working on and doing and as we developed a friendship it will be super spontaneous and fun.
